The forecast for the weekend says we're in for a hot one so don't forget the sunscreen. Wearing sunscreen every day is a must. I'm paler than pale so it's a necessity not a luxury. Breathing in the toxic fumes from the aerosol version is not what I want for me or you or any furry little friend. Apparently SPF Sunscreen creams are better for you than the sprays, (This statement needs further investigation) which is annoying for me straight off the bat because I must confess to loving the convenience of a spray all the while holding my breath.
With a cream it's harder to reach every place under the rolls and folds and much easier to miss spots and end up looking like I stuck part of my body to a grill turning me into the other, other white meat.
Today I'll review 3 brands of animal friendly SPF sunscreen creams, all with the The Leaping Bunny stamp or the PETA seal of approval.
- Kiss My Face Sensitive Side 3 in 1 SPF 30
- Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen SPF 30
- The Honest Company SPF 30
All too quickly I look like the sun decided to take a leak on me. I'm not dry, not one bit and nor do I look it. I'm sitting here in the sun sweatin' bullets all in the name of this review (yeh, that and vanity, lets see if I actually tan) wondering how do the beautiful inhabitants of Los Angeles manage to carry off this dry look effortlessly. Unattractive & embarrassing beads of sweat travel from the crease in my elbow down the inside of my arm, to name just one place and I'm left thinking of the saying "horses sweat, men perspire, women merely glow". Well giddy up because I'm obviously a total ride and ready to race in the next Derby!
The sunscreen: Hooves up, thumbs up. I love the name of this company and I'm happy with this purchase. I'm not burnt so mission accomplished.
It went on very white with no scent and needed a good rub in.... now now. Once rubbed in it didn't feel greasy at all and dried in almost immediately. My legs feel moisturized too without a sticky feeling. One negative to this though is I was left with a faint white flaky layer on my skin post shower. You can't win em all eh? Rating it I give it 4 out of 5 stars. 1 docked for the post shower silt and because it's more expensive than Alba Botanica SPF 30.

This is by far the ultimate winner for me. I give it 5 stars out of 5! It smells really nice with aloe and what I think is a hint of apple. It rubs in easily with good coverage and dries straight away too. No sliminess here. The fact that it's cheaper than the other animal friendly alternatives gives it an extra bonus point from me, not to mention it ships to the Emerald Isle.

I'm putting in some serious tan time at Coffee Bean to review these creams. It's a tough life for me. It's sounds pleasurable and I'm not complaining, but I don't look one bit pretty doing it, just a hot sweaty mess.
Verdict: Yes Alba, yes.
Quick drying, no stick rub in cream. No burn for me and no residual layer post shower and definitely a plus for the price point.
Today's update: I used this cream in Spain in May 2016 and spent 3 full days sun worshiping on the Mediterranean lathered in it. Again no burn, just a quick drying protection and I love it even more so than the first time around.

Cut to the chase. Excited after getting my first Costco card; and as a side note the picture is horrific. I'm hoping they stop me each time I go there because I don't really look like that... do I?!.. ..."I do!"... really? I had delusions about myself.
Anyway back to Jessica, I was even more delighted to see The Honest Company sell in Costco meaning I can marry my eco self to my cheap bulk buying self. Score!

Verdict. Bust. A big thumbs down. This lotion fell at the first fence for me. It is too much on the greasy side and my skin remained slightly greasy right through the day which is definitely a negative. I put a normal layer on with no scent and waited before I went outside under the lamp. I didn't get burned which means it worked for me. There has been some negative press lately about it not working and people actually getting burnt, so take from that what you will. However definitely one of it's winning qualities in my book is that after the shower there was no residue left on my skin as I have found before. I rate it 2.5 out of 5. This will be used as back up should I need it. The greasiness alone would put you off.
I'm excited that I found a friend in Alba Botanica Hawaiian Sunscreen that is both inexpensive and efficient because I use it daily, making this review a special one for me. These animal friendly, cruelty free sunscreens can run a little more on the expensive side than their counterparts and can be found in Target, Whole Foods, Bed, Bath & Beyond, other retailers and online.
