The origins of this post are a little disheartening to say the least. I feel compelled to write a short note for men.
To give a little background.. When briefly, via approximately 2 texts of 140 characters each brief I said to my brother the product junkie, that all the products he uses are tested on animals and for every product he has there is an equivalent available made by another company that is cruelty free, that does not test on animals. To put this into context he is an animal lover, a horse rider and a dog owner. His response was, "really, how do I find out though?". Meaning where can I find said products and where do I find the information? I thought to myself, well wait a minute what have I been writing about for the last 2 - 3 months. It's a pretty dismal sign if even your family aren't reading your blog. My text back was something mature to the affect of "MY BLOG!!!" hashtag sarcastic smiley face, or it should have been.
My husband is a loyal purchaser of the same products and has been using them in his a daily routine for years. These are tough habits to break. I swoop in and position myself high and safely upon my cruelty free soap box, start sounding loudly about the unnecessary harm and pain caused to animals in this day and age when companies test their products and ingredients on them and try to convince him that he can buy alternatives or to at least try alternatives. This is a tough sell. I explain, (more than nag, I promise) that if I, a self confessed marketeers dream who has been known to buy the worst, most ridiculous money down the swanny products out there because they claim they will make me look like some new other worldly goddess have found inexpensive genuinely good cruelty free options for my body and bathtub, so can he, "will he please try?" I won't make your dinner if you don't try type of plea blackmail.
He has to his credit given up his daily soap and now uses and really likes the Yes To Carrots shower gel. So it got me thinking. I will test out the male cruelty free brands on him and report back. He will be my male guinea pig.
I don't by the way look ethereal, more like ET, said product was a gimmick. Shock, horror.
They say no pain no gain, but do we really have to cause pain to an animal to make us presentable and prevent ass sweat... just asking?
Try the animal friendly alternatives, please, you look so pretty please?
