Cruelty Free e.l.f Makeup Review

elf cosmetics are a little god send. They have the PETA cruelty free seal of approval and as I am replenishing my beauty products one by one with alternatives that are not tested on animals, I need to have everyday items to reach for when beauty sleep escapes me.  E.l.f stands for eyes, lips and face and can be purchased online, at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, CVS and other retailers.  They are exceptionally cheap and affordable.  All 5 products listed cost me less than $20. My cheap side was dancing.

  • elf Cream Eyeliner comes with a little brush for application.  I love makeup and playing dress up but the female gene of being able apply said make up with any type of innate skill clearly passed me by. This little brush makes sweeping the eyeliner on child's play.  The cream eyeliner itself is dark and perfect for a dramatic cat eyeliner effect or for a more muted look.  This is a definite favorite and at approx $3.00 who could say no.
  • elf Flawless Finish Foundation SPF 15 Sunscreen.  This smells really nice and has a lovely color with great coverage, (I bought Sand). I used Physicians Formula loose powder (and pink blusher) over it, applied with the Body Shop kabuki brush to help set it as the weather was extremely warm.  I love this foundation and couldn't be happier about it for everyday wear.  At the end of the day it had worn off slightly but again that may have been the weather.  At $6.00 I am happy to report that I will be wearing this again and again.
  • elf Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet.  It is a strong lipstick with a lovely smell and moisturizing quality.  I was a little disappointed with the colour I choose as it was a lot pinker than I had hoped for.  (I was aiming for my inner vamp and looking for a red lip), but at $3.00 who can complain.  Another gold star from me.
  •  elf Essential Jumbo Lipgloss stick, this cost $1, need I say more.  I love this jumbo stick.  It is excellent and I wear it all the time, it gives a nice stain and not a full colour lip so it feels perfect for everyday wear.
  • elf Lengthening & Defining Mascara.  This again was $1 in Bed Bath & Beyond. I was cautious when applying it, it is so cheap I thought my eyes would burn out of my head.  However I was very pleasantly surprised.  It is a good mascara for a few wears.  It didn't clump or fall and was extremely natural looking. My only gripe was that I didn't get long out of this tube.  It dried up at an alarming rate and I threw it out. With this said I'm exposing my penny pinching self, at $1 it did the trick.  This won't be a regular buy for me but if you're in a pickle before payday it is grab and go one to get you by.
Overall I think elf Cosmetics is a fantastic brand providing very affordable cruelty free makeup options.  I would love little helpers (elves) to come in and beautify my face but until that happens I'll be using e.l.f, myself.
